Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act

New regulations took effect on March 24, 2014 which make changes to regulations implementing the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act, as amended (VEVRAA). The changes prohibit federal contractors and subcontractors from discriminating against protected veterans, and requires these employers to take affirmative action to recruit, hire, promote, and retain these veterans. The rule strengthens affirmative action to aid contractors in recruiting and hiring protected veterans and improve job opportunities.

The EEO poster must be posted by businesses with 15 or more employees as well as businesses involved in federal contracts or subcontracts. The posting contains laws enforced by both the EEOC and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). The OFCCP has stated that it is likely that the "EEO is the Law" poster would be changed because of the terminology changes. Contractors should continue using the existing poster until the new poster is available.

The EEO poster must be posted in an area that is conspicuous to employees and applicants. The posting must also be available in formats that are accessible to people with disabilities. These could include versions in Braille, large format or audio versions. Contractors must make alternate formats available when an applicant makes a request for or when the contractor knows that the employee will be unable to read the standard version. The contractor must also insure that all electronic applicants have the opportunity to view the EEO poster. This could be satisfied in a few ways such as offering a link to the poster or making the electronic version available on a web application.
