Description

Maine Equal Pay Act Poster

The Maine Equal Pay Act Poster provides employees with important information about their rights under Maine's Equal Pay Law. Maine law prohibits employers from paying employees differently based on sex or race for comparable work requiring comparable skill, effort, and responsibility.

The notice also helps employees understand factors that may be considered when comparing wages and provides information about filing an Equal Pay Complaint with the Maine Department of Labor.

Maine Equal Pay Law

Under Maine law, employers may not discriminate between employees in the same establishment on the basis of sex or race by paying different wage rates for comparable work. Certain wage differences may be permitted when based on established seniority systems, merit systems, or differences in shifts or times of day that do not discriminate based on sex or race.

Maine law also protects employees' ability to discuss their own wages and to make certain inquiries or disclosures concerning wages for purposes of enforcing equal pay rights.

Maine Equal Pay Workplace Notice

The Maine Department of Labor provides an Equal Pay poster explaining employee protections and the process for filing an Equal Pay Complaint. The state currently identifies the Equal Pay poster as an optional workplace poster. Employers should review the requirements applicable to their workplace to determine which Maine notices must be displayed.
