January 1, 2027, Expected Labor Poster Changes: What Employers Should Expect
Although 2027 is still months away, states are already announcing employment law changes that may affect workplace posting requirements. Most of the anticipated changes involve minimum wage increases, but employers should also be aware of Connecticut’s expanded paid sick leave requirements and the possibility of a future federal EEOC poster revision.
Labor Law Compliance Center is actively monitoring these developments and will continue updating clients as states release official rates and revised posting materials.
Expected 2027 State Labor Law Posting Changes
Most 2027 minimum wage rates have already been confirmed, while others will be determined later this year using inflation or cost-of-living formulas.
| State | Expected Change | New Rate or Requirement | Effective Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arizona | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
| California | Minimum wage | $17.40 per hour | 1/1/2027 |
| Colorado | Minimum wage & COMPS Order | $15.71 per hour; $12.69 per hour for tipped employees | 1/1/2027 |
| Connecticut | Minimum wage | $17.48 per hour | 1/1/2027 |
| Connecticut | Paid sick leave expansion | Expands coverage from employers with 11 employees to employers with one or more employees | 1/1/2027 |
| Maine | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
| Minnesota | Minimum wage | $11.87 per hour | 1/1/2027 |
| Minnesota | Youth and training wage | $9.68 per hour | 1/1/2027 |
| Montana | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
| New Jersey | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rates pending by employer and employee classification | 1/1/2027 |
| New York | Inflation-based minimum wage adjustment | Final rates pending by region and employee classification | 1/1/2027 |
| Ohio | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
| Rhode Island | Minimum wage | $17.00 per hour | 1/1/2027 |
| South Dakota | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
| Vermont | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
| Virginia | Minimum wage | $13.75 per hour | 1/1/2027 |
| Washington | Annual minimum wage adjustment | Final rate pending | 1/1/2027 |
Because many annual minimum wage adjustments are based on inflation measurements that are not finalized until later in the year, several states have not yet announced their official 2027 rates. Labor Law Compliance Center will continue monitoring each state agency for announcements and updated posting materials.
Employers should also remember that some industries, employee classifications, cities and counties may have different or higher minimum wage requirements. Not every wage announcement automatically results in a mandatory poster replacement. Our compliance team reviews the revised posting, the applicable law and the nature of the change before determining whether an updated poster is required.
Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Expands to All Employers
Connecticut’s paid sick leave expansion reaches its final scheduled phase on January 1, 2027. Beginning on that date, the law generally applies to employers with at least one employee, subject to limited statutory exemptions. Covered employees may accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per year. Because Connecticut requires employers to provide employees with notice of their paid sick leave rights, businesses with Connecticut employees should be prepared to review their workplace postings before the expanded coverage requirement takes effect.
A New Federal EEOC Poster May Also Be Coming
Labor Law Compliance Center is monitoring the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for a possible revision to the federal “Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal” poster. The EEOC has not announced when a new poster will be released. Employers should continue displaying the current EEOC poster until the agency officially publishes a replacement. If a new mandatory version is released, Labor Law Compliance Center will review it immediately and notify affected clients.
Additional Changes May Be Announced
This is a preliminary list based on information available at the time of publication. Additional federal, state and local posting changes may be announced before January 1, 2027. Government agencies frequently release new minimum wage rates, regulations and revised posters during the final months of the year. Late legislative or administrative developments may also create changes that are not currently anticipated. Labor Law Compliance Center will continue monitoring federal and state agencies and will update our clients as additional information becomes available.
